Abstract
This study clarifies the legal notion of carrier documents (such as bills of lading and consignment notes) and explains their functions in transport operations. It then examines how these documents affect insurance relationships, including the allocation of risk, the evidentiary framework for claims, and the exercise of subrogation rights against carriers. The article emphasizes the practical consequences of documentary accuracy and negotiation on coverage and indemnification.
