Abstract
This article examines the limits of dominant economic theory in explaining and responding to the oil crisis. It discusses the lessons that can be drawn from the crisis for economic analysis, particularly with regard to energy dependence, multinational firms, international markets, and the relationship between theory and real economic shocks. The article invites a critical reassessment of prevailing economic models.
