Abstract
This article examines the notion of commercial parasitism and its relevance as a legal instrument for protecting consumers. It discusses how parasitic practices distort fair competition by allowing an operator to benefit from another’s investments, reputation, and know-how, and explains the market-disrupting effects of such conduct. The paper argues that combating parasitism helps ensure a loyal competitive environment and, indirectly, safeguards consumers’ interests through better market discipline.
