Semantic Research within Generative and Cognitive Linguistics in Morocco: Achievements and Prospects
Abstract
This article examines the current state of semantic research within generative and cognitive linguistics in Morocco. Since the 1970s, semantics, as an integral component of grammar, has undergone significant advancements. This evolution can be attributed to the incorporation of linguistics into Moroccan university curricula and the increasing interest of researchers in semantic issues through contemporary approaches. This trend has fostered a scientific initiative that not only engages with semantic production in classical literature but also critically interrogates and seeks to enhance it in line with emerging modern theoretical frameworks. We will specifically analyze two significant semantic projects in Moroccan and Arab linguistics: those of Mohamad Ghalim and Abdelmajid Jahfa. These projects are characterized by a rigorous scientific perspective that integrates theoretical foundations with a comparative analysis of Standard Arabic, aiming to advance semantic research through modern linguistic methodologies.
