Literature and the Environment: the challenge

Abstract

This study sheds light on ecocriticism and its challenges. Ecocriticism is intended not only to be an academic and theoretical discussion but also a way of life that extends to all human fields and activities, be they political, cultural, social, intellectual, or aesthetic. Accordingly, the tendency of environmental reform remains the dominant trend towards creating a balance between human activities and the natural world, with the absolute rejection of everything related to anthropocentrism. In this context, various movements emerged under the banner of environmental reform, including ecofeminism and radical environmentalism. Thus, the scope of ecocriticism has expanded to include the magnitude, complexity, and interconnectedness of environmental issues in relation to common patterns of thought and behavior. Ecocriticism has become part of literary and cultural criticism, and an approach through which creative writings are studied and crisis of the natural in nature writings is discussed.
