The Interplay of Anthropocentric and Ecocentric Perspectives : Towards a Deeper Understanding of the Environment

Abstract

This paper contends that a simple opposition of the anthropocentric and ecocentric is redundant, and more importantly, facile in the quest to understand the world. Indeed, it is through the very interconnectedness between the anthropocentric and ecocentric systems of value that humans aim to gain a deeper ecological understanding of their surroundings. The transition between the two systems of value should be reflected at the levels of thinking, being and writing. This paper explores writing as a mode of expression of environmental concerns.
