Abstract

The study discusses the main autobiographical characteristics of Abdelkébir Khatibi’s “Tattooed Memory” (1971). This novel is Khatibi’s first literary work and it is regarded by the critics as a postcolonial novel because it tackles issues such as identity, culture and language from a postcolonial perspective. Therefore, this literary work aims at proposing some answers to some questions such as the meanings of the Self and the Other within postcolonial theory and the different manifestations of both the Self and the Other. This article did not deal with this literary work as a postcolonial novel but as an autobiographical narrative. So, the main autobiographical characteristics in Khatibi’s (1971) “Tattooed Memory” were tackled.
