Abstract

Song is the Kabyle people's preferred means of expression. It is the expression of their civilisational and cultural heritage. Commonly referred to as intangible and oral cultural heritage, song is a form and a practice that needs to be preserved. In our contribution, we will look at ways of safeguarding and transmitting ancient Kabyle poetry, particularly through song, following the example of the Tiwizi group. We will also try to show that the re-appropriation and updating of ancient Kabyle song by modern singers is also a way of to preserve ancient poetry and a means of transmitting the oral tradition. Key words: Old Kabyle song, intangible cultural heritage, oral tradition, media, school practices.
