Abstract
We suggest in this article studying the proper noun in the romantic work of Guy de Maupassant. For that purpose, we shall approach the problem of the definition of the proper noun which remains so far the object of several debates. Then, we shall distinguish three functions of the proper noun: the reference function, the function vocative and the function of appointment. We shall present, finally, a thematic classification of the proper nouns appearing in the corpus of the romantic works of Maupassant, supplied by the Hyperbase software.
