Abstract
This study analyses the methodological, ethical and epistemological issues encountered during my doctoral research on women's fiction writing in Amazigh Tachelhit. My membership of the community under study, my knowledge of the female novelists surveyed, and my involvement in promoting books in Amazigh initially seemed to be an advantage. However, this ‘insider’ position quickly proved problematic, leading me to reflect on the implications of my position in the collection and interpretation of data, particularly on sensitive topics such as religion, sexuality, identity, and politics. Drawing on the concept of methodological relativism, the study analyses the tension between subjectivity and objectivity and examines the link between fictional narratives and the novelists' lived experiences. It thus highlights the specific challenges and implications associated with adopting an ‘insider’ position in the analysis of Amazigh-speaking Tachelhit novelists in Morocco.
