Abstract
This article examines the influence of Arabic poetry on Hebrew poetry through the model of the Hebrew muwashshah, with particular attention to the work of Judah Halevi. It situates Hebrew poetic production in medieval al-Andalus within a broad context of cultural contact, linguistic proximity, and literary exchange between Arabic and Hebrew traditions. The study shows how Hebrew poets adopted and adapted Arabic poetic forms, metres, themes, and aesthetic conventions, especially the muwashshah, while giving them new functions within Hebrew literary expression. By comparing poetic structures, cultural references, and modes of imitation and transformation, the article highlights the depth of Arab-Jewish intellectual interaction and the importance of Andalusian culture in shaping medieval Hebrew poetry.
