Abstract

This article presents a biographical and historical study of Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Arabi al-Fasi, one of the notable figures associated with Moroccan zawiyas. Drawing on a range of classical and later sources, it examines the information transmitted about his life, intellectual formation, scholarly environment, spiritual affiliations, and the place he occupied within Moroccan religious culture. The study pays particular attention to the role of zawiyas as spaces of learning, mediation, piety, and social influence, while also noting the difficulties created by divergent or fragmentary biographical accounts. Through this figure, the article highlights the importance of Sufi and scholarly networks in the production and transmission of knowledge in Morocco.
