Abstract
The article explores interpretation (ta’wīl) in contemporary Arabic literary criticism and clarifies how meaning is produced and justified. It discusses overlaps between interpretation, explanation, and reading, proposing a layered model that links textual signs to meaning through context, theoretical frameworks, and argumentative validation.
