Abstract
This article examines Carlo Goldoni’s theatrical reform and the controversies it generated in eighteenth-century Italy. It highlights his move from commedia dell’arte improvisation toward scripted realism and frames the reform as an aesthetic project and cultural struggle over theatre’s social function.
